| Flomax Side Effects | What is Prostate The prostate is a gland that is part of male mammalian sex organs. Its main function is to secrete and store a clear, slightly basic fluid that is part of semen. The prostate differs considerably between species anatomically, chemically and physiologically. A healthy human prostate is slightly larger than a walnut. It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It is located in front of the rectum and part of it can be felt during a rectal exam. Glands around the urethra beneath the bladder which produces the viscous fluid making up the bulk of the semen. The sperm cells from the testicles are then blended with this fluid in the two seminal vescicles at the backside of the bladder above the prostate, thus making the complete semen. The semen is then stored in these vescicles before ejaculation.
